You bring it, you're carrying it! Aside from your tent, you are completely responsible for carrying all of your belongings with you for the duration of the course. This means all of your food, clothing, and items needed to survive the week will be with you at all times. 
Water and aid stations will be provided.

Children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) will never be able to run an ultra race. When you participate in JAR of Hope events, you help bring us one step closer to finding a cure for Duchenne. Our goal is to one day see a child with DMD run their first Ultra.

Mission: SAve the first child

When Jim and Karen Raffone had their third child, Jamesy. They couldn't wait to watch him grow into a healthy boy so they could watch him play sports and run around with other kids. Little did they know, that Jamesy had a muscle wasting disease with no cure. Jim had to do something to try to save his boy. He started JAR of Hope in an attempt raise funds for research that might cure this deadly disease.

So far, no child has ever survived DMD.

TACKLE THIS 7 DAY, 200 MILE JOURNEY STARTING AT THE NORTH RIM OF THE GRAND CANYON AND VENTURE ACROSS THE TREACHEROUS COLUMBIA PLATEAU, ENDING IN KANAB UTAH.  

Embark on the adventure of a lifetime and test your limits in Continental America's most remote environment. Start the race off at one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the edge of the North Rim of the iconic Grand Canyon. From there, you will endure some of the most grueling elements the desert has to offer. End your journey in Kanab, Utah and celebrate with new found friends and family at our celebration ceremony.

COURSE HIGHLIGHTS 

Blistering heat, treacherous terrain, and unsettling desert critters are only a few of the obstacles you'll endure while on the course...but they are a small price to pay to experience the magic of the North Rim 200's course.

To start, you will join your fellow participants for a Welcome Dinner set at the edge of the Grand Canyon's North Rim, a place so remote that very few will ever experience it. Get to know your tent mates and new found family members under the darkest, starriest night sky you'll ever witness. Wake up to the sun illuminating the Grand Canyon and head to the start line where the North Rim 200 will commence!

Throughout the seven days, you'll be taken through majestic sand dunes, jaw-dropping red slot canyons, hoodoos, and buttes. There will be countless picture perfect and awe-inspiring moments to look forward to.

We strongly discourage the use of technology while on the course so that you can completely disconnect from your daily life and totally immerse yourself in the experience.

About JAR OF HOPE

DMD is a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration. It primarily affects boys, most of whom are wheelchair-bound by age 12. Many don't survive past their mid-twenties. Duchenne affects 300,000 boys worldwide; 20,000 children in the United States alone. These children are robbed of their childhood as they can't run and play. The simplest of movements is painful.
 
As you can probably imagine it takes millions of dollars to find a cure. With your help, JAR of Hope supports a team of research scientists and doctors dedicated to eliminating Duchenne. We also provide support for these boys and their families.

For families like ours, every day and every dollar counts. With organized fundraising events and support from you, we can continue our mission and make the dream to find a cure a reality. Please check our website for events and updates from our researchers.

Without a cure, Jamesy's body continues to waste away; by 12 he will be in a wheelchair, by 15 he will be a quadriplegic, by 18 he will not be able to breathe on his own, he will live on a ventilator until he succumbs to the disease. The only way this beats him is if we fail him.
Our mission is to find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Transportation will be provided from McCarron Airport in Las Vegas, NV. Your stay is covered for the two nights leading up to the race.
